For the redevelopment of an existing multifunctional urban area, a strategy was developed. In 2070, Dordrecht and Zwijndrecht have transformed from industrial cities to cities with emphasis on history and a high quality of life. The housing shortage is solved through new, upcoming neighbourhoods and the cities have become part of the Randstad with a new campus. Regional and urban connections are made through a green ribbon of sustainable living and working areas. In the project, my role was the landscape architect. My proposal focused on a turquoise bicycle highway as a connecting medium between and within the cities and as a sustainable alternative to the car. The path weaves different parts of the city together; as a green route, it passes through various parks, each of which have their own character: from organic to rational to in between. The parks have water storage functions in the form of bioswales, sponge parks, and lots of green, to deal with the urgent water crisis.
